Nothing can be more frightening for a writer than entering their work into a competitive contest. As our Halloween treat to you, Fightwritersblock.com is allowing you to do just that for the chance to win the T-Shirt of your choice and a shoutout on Instagram.
All you have to do to enter is write a scary short story or flash fiction for the chance to win a prize. Even if you do not win, all entries will be posted to the site so that you can potentially reach other authors and gain some valuable feedback.
I realize entering work into a contest could be scary, but it also comes with plenty of advantages. If you are on the fence about entering this contest I highly recommend you give it a shot. Remember, you can not win if you do not enter.
The prompt for this writing contest is to write your best scary story or Halloween-related story (Anything related to monsters will be accepted). How scary your story is can be up to you. Your story can be so frightening that it haunts the reader long after they have read it or it could be more light-hearted, like an episode of Scooby-Doo. If you are unsure if your entry meets the criteria feel free to email me or send a direct message to me on Instagram.
Your entry can be either a short story or flash fiction, so long as it is under the 5,000-word maximum. All entries must be submitted by November 7th at 11:59 PM eastern time so be sure your entry is in by then. If you have any issues with submitting or any other questions about the contest feel free to reach out!
All submissions are due on November 7 at 11:59 P.M. eastern time. Any submissions received after that date will not be entered. You may submit as many entries as you’d like so long as you make sure they are well edited. Any submission with too many glaring errors will also not be accepted so be sure to edit. If you are unsure, run it through Grammarly.
If you are uncomfortable sharing your name on your entry you may fill in the name column as anonymous. Be sure you include your email, as it will be used to contact the winner. Do not forget to set the post category for your submission as the Scary Story Contest. The genre options on the submission link are for writing book reviews.
The winner will be selected by @memesforwriters on Instagram. They will receive a t-shirt of their choice from this site’s shop. The winner will be selected on November 12th.
To encourage more reader participation there will also be a follower vote. It will be hosted on Instagram. Anyone will be able to read the entries and vote for their favorite. The entries with the most votes will receive Instagram shoutouts. The number of shoutouts available will be announced later on Instagram depending on the number of entries. The more entries there are the more shoutouts will be awarded, so be sure to share this contest with as many friends as possible.
All entries will be submitted on this site under the writing contest menu on November 8th. You will be allowed to share the link to your entry as you please. Do not be afraid to insert the link to your story on your bio or insert it on your story so that all your followers can find it. The more participation the contest vote gets the better.
Note for the shoutout votes the entry will be posted on the site in the order they were submitted. The earlier you submit the higher your story will feature. However, this will only influence the Instagram vote for shoutout winners.
The winners for shoutouts and the t-shirt are completely different. One will not influence the other. Your votes will not influence the t-shirt winner, as that will be selected separately by @memesforwriters. The winners for both will be announced on November 12th.
If you have the time to create a submission I strongly encourage you to enter this contest. It costs nothing and you can end up winning a free t-shirt or a shoutout. At the very least you can gain confidence by sharing your writing with others.
All submissions that fit the guidelines will be posted on the site. It is a great way to get your work out there for the rest of the community to see. Feedback comments on the entries are encouraged.
Keep in mind, even if you decide not to enter this contest you can still check out the other submissions.
Remember to set the post category to the Scary Story Contest and include your email. To keep up with all updates be sure to subscribe to my email list.
Good luck! I look forward to reading your entries.
